Dear friend,

Gratitude comes in many moments and many forms. It’s in the deep breath you take when you notice the sunset colors of the sky on your drive home from work. It’s in the contentment that envelops you when you take a bite of your favorite fall comfort food, or climb into your cozy bed with a good book. And it’s what makes your heart blossom open when you spend time with loved ones this holiday season—those you see frequently as well as those who are far away but never far from your thoughts.

Sometimes we lose sight of these moments in the bustle of life, especially the busyness at this time of year. I invite you to make time to cultivate gratitude, and to fully embrace those moments of thankfulness when they come upon you unawares. In that spirit, I propose this forum question of the month: Do you have a ritual, reflection, or practice that makes your holiday season more meaningful?

Sincerely,

Vandita Kate Marchesiello
Director, Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association

Each quarter, KYTA has a raffle—picking three winners from the pool of KYTA members who have referred someone to Kripalu Center.

Below are brief profiles of this quarter’s winners. Each winner has received a $500 credit at Kripalu that is good for three years, transferable, and applicable to housing, tuition, and Healing Arts services.

Want to participate in the next Referral Raffle? Ask the students you refer to Kripalu to mention your yoga teacher ID number or name when making their reservation. Every referral you make increases your chances of winning.

From: Preston, Connecticut
Number of years as a KYTA member: 6+

I have been teaching yoga since 2005 to many diverse groups, including seniors, corporate employees, gym members, and prison inmates. I completed my 500-hour training at Kripalu in 2010 and will continue to be first a student, then a teacher.

Yoga has taught me so much about myself and life. I love witnessing my students’ “aha” moments, and seeing the calm wave of presence that washes over them. Kripalu is a second home for me, where I can let go and be with like-minded people. I am proud to be a KYTA member and encourage everyone to make the trip to the Berkshires!

Number of years as a KYTA member: 12+

I finished YTT in 1999 and received my 500-hour certification in 2004. In 2005, my husband and I retired to Florida’s Nature Coast, where I currently teach six weekly classes of varying intensity, from chair yoga to vigorous yoga. Now that I live a long way from Kripalu, the “yoga home” connection is even more important.

The KYTA dues are affordable, the KTYA membership benefits are great, and the friendly voice in the KYTA office is my touchstone to Kripalu!

Number of years as a KYTA member: 1

I completed the 200-hour Kripalu Yoga teacher training in 2010 and now teach private and group classes in Ithaca, New York, at Sunrise Yoga Center and Cornell University. I also provide instruction to athletic groups, including the Cornell women’s cross-country team and the Ithaca College women’s swim team.

As a member of KYTA, I especially enjoy the opportunities to return to Kripalu for less.
