Turning Point: Laura Berman Fortgang
KOL Describe what you do in 15 words or less.
Laura I believe that I eliminate unnecessary suffering by ushering people to self-knowledge.
KOL Tell us about a turning point in your life.
Laura When I was in my mid-twenties, I had a three-year clinical depression that was the result of overworking on my dream to be on Broadway, at the expense of friends, romance, family, and balance. That drive led me into anorexia and exercise bulimia. Teaching myself how to change the tapes in my mind and become whole ultimately led me to life coaching. I’ve gone from waitressing and acting to being on Oprah, writing books, owning a life-coaching business, and getting married and having three kids.
KOL What do you love about teaching?
Laura I love seeing the lightbulb moments. It’s very gratifying to hear from students, even years down the road, who credit me with something they ran with—but I never know if that’s the case. You just give and hope it serves.
KOL What are you passionate about right now?
Laura I am crazy passionate about helping people finding their right livelihood during these changing times. So many people are being forced to reinvent, and it’s a gift and an opportunity to get back on track with our true purpose—to find our gift and make it our work.
KOL What do you do in your downtime?
Laura With three kids, I have little downtime, but I recently got back to my theater roots and did my first musical in 17 years. I love performing!
