Seva CD Submissions
Thank you for your interest in being a part of the Seva CD series! Whether you are a small-town musician or an internationally acclaimed artist, we are confident in our ability to help introduce your music to new ears and create more fans. Also, your music will help raise money that will allow our teachers to bring yoga to underserved populations all over the world through our Teaching for Diversity program.
Below is detailed information on how you can increase your chances of getting your music marketed on one of our annual Seva CDs, and what you can expect from the process. Please read the following carefully before e-mailing with questions. We look forward to hearing your music!
Styles of Music
If you haven’t yet experienced the Seva CD series, we encourage you to purchase a volume in order to find out whether your music will fit with the overall energy of the series.

The intention for the series is to introduce new music to our yoga teachers that they can use for personal practice and/or yoga classes. Our selections include heartfelt grooves, relevant singer-songwriter pieces, mellow or upbeat instrumentals, rhythmic chanting, and smooth, ethereal soundscapes.
You can send in music at any time. We collect music throughout the entire year and generally work on creating each year’s mix between July and October. We schedule the release of the CD to our members for December, after which it is available for sale to the general public.
The best way for us to receive your music is by CD via the USPS at
Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health
PO Box 309
Stockbridge, MA 01262
It is possible for us to receive digital copies via e-mail, but this requires additional steps before we are able to listen, thus lengthening the time it takes for us to experience your music. In the event that it is not possible to send a physical CD, you can e-mail tracks to us at email@example.com.
We produce a new volume of the Seva CD each year, so it’s possible that your track could be selected immediately. It’s also possible that a few years could go by before one of your tracks gets selected to be used. It depends on a number of factors, including the theme of the CD, the overall flow we’re looking for, and the quality of the content, to name a few. It’s also possible that your music won’t be selected. Please do not be offended and please do continue to submit work that you’d like us to help market. We’ll do our best to make that happen.
If you have a certain track on a submitted CD that we absolutely cannot use (due to preference or copyright issues), please let us know in advance. We create a particular flow in these CDs and prefer not to create a mix only to find out that we are unable to use the track we’ve selected. We do ask that you leave the options as open as possible. This increases the chances that we will select your music to promote through this compilation.
We will contact you to confirm that we received your CD once it arrives. Also, we will e-mail you, most likely during August or September, if/when we have approved a track for the current volume. If you do not hear from us, that does not mean that your music won’t be selected for a future compilation. We cannot guarantee that you will be a part of the series until we are working on a given year’s mix, at which point we will contact you directly.
PaperworkOnce your music is selected, we will need you to complete two documents to finalize your inclusion on the Seva CD.
- A contract with Kripalu, which states that you give us permission to use this track for this single product.
- An audio manufacturing agreement for our CD duplication company, which states that you give us the right to make a CD that contains your music.
Once we get to this phase of the process, we will need you be prompt in returning these required documents to ensure that your track will make it onto the mix.
We schedule the release of our annual Seva CD for no earlier than November and no later than December. The CD is mailed to members of the Kripalu Yoga and Ayurveda Association, Kripalu’s Yoga Team, our Board of Trustees, Evening Events Coordinator, various staff, and our CEO. This totals almost 2,600 people. (And that’s just part of our marketing!)
We will also mail you five copies for yourself.
There are various ways in which we spread your music throughout the larger Kripalu community, including
- The CD is reviewed and highlighted in our quarterly publication, Practice
- The CD and its philanthropic nature are noted in Kripalu’s Development publications, which are sent to all donors and potential donors
- The CD is displayed in the Kripalu Shop and played over the Shop sound system
- The CD is mentioned on our Facebook page throughout the year
- The CD is listed in our monthly e-news, which is sent to all our members.
We are very excited about the success of the Seva CD series and hope to include your music on a future compilation. We appreciate your submission and encourage you to stay in touch and keep sending us new releases. There is no limit to the number of times that your music can be included on the Seva CD, though we do try to give many musicians the opportunity. We look forward to hearing your music!
