Elaine Miller-Karas

Elaine Miller-Karas, MSW, is a psychotherapist, lecturer, and activist with 25 years experience in health education, teaching, and consultation. She created innovative training programs to help community mental health and health-care workers understand the impact of trauma upon the mind and body. A teacher of family medicine, she has also lectured internationally about integrative healing approaches for treating trauma. Primarily a clinician specializing in treating individuals and families, she has worked in Louisiana with survivors of Hurricane Katrina, in Thailand after the tsunami, and in Africa with survivors of female genital mutilation.
