Barbara Verrochi

Barbara Verrochi is cofounder of the Shala, a yoga studio with branches in Manhattan and Brooklyn. She began practicing yoga in 1990, and has been studying Ashtanga Yoga with Eddie Stern and learning harmonium and singing with Gulum Mohamed Kahn since 1996. In 1997, she made the first of many trips to Mysore, India, to study with K. Pattabhi Jois and his family, grandson R. Sharath Jois and daughter R. Saraswati. Barbara is a board member of Bent on Learning, a nonprofit organization that offers yoga and meditation instruction to students in public schools throughout New York City. www.theshala.com
