Program Details

For students with at least six months of yoga practice.

Swami Kripalu was a practitioner of the ancient spiritual path of tantric hatha yoga. In that tradition, asana was accompanied by specific breathing patterns (kumbhakas and pranayamas), internal focal points (drishti), visualizations, locks (bandhas), and hand gestures (mudras), all used for the purpose of inducing spiritual experiences. These techniques would raise biological energy (prana) to high states, transforming the perception of the yogis who practiced them.

In this workshop, we use Swami Kripalu’s teachings to explore and enrich our practice as contemporary yogis. This program includes

  • Morning yoga classes
  • Instruction in a variety of lesser-known techniques that deepen personal practice and enhance yoga classes
  • An exploration of the path practiced by Swami Kripalu and how it can be useful to us today
  • Four days of retreat, healthy living, and community support.

Learn 20 asanas recommended by Swami Kripalu, many of which are not frequently taught. These postures form the foundation for the advanced techniques that are the workshop’s focus.

Note Please eat lightly before opening night. This program is a required course in Yoganand Michael Carroll’s Pranakriya™ 500-hour yoga teacher training program. For more information, visit
