The Art of Storytelling for Kids Speaking Your Truth
- Presenter: Matthew Dicks
For children ages 8–13.
Learn the art of personal storytelling in a highly-entertaining program designed for kids with little or no storytelling experience. Personal storytelling is a proven means of improving communication and writing skills, making new friends, and understanding yourself and the world better.
Explore the elements of effective personal narratives, taking the opportunity to write, speak, and share your stories in a safe, positive, and supportive environment. This program includes
- Methods for generating story ideas from life experiences
- Games to help kids speak on the spur of the moment
- Techniques for constructing effective stories
- Development of humor, suspense, and gravity
- Performance techniques.
Whether they hope to become America’s next great writer or just want to entertain their friends at the lunch table, the art of storytelling can help kids accomplish these goals.
Note Children in this program must be accompanied at Kripalu by a parent or guardian who is registered for a program or an R&R Retreat. Kids meet for morning and afternoon sessions while parents are in their programs. Families are together at mealtimes, in the evenings, and overnight.
