Black Yoga Teachers Alliance 2016 Inaugural Conference and Retreat Revival! Evolution of Spirit

Explore the breadth and diversity of yoga with master teachers and healers at the first Black Yoga Teachers Alliance conference.

From the keynote address by Caroline Shola Arewa to the DJ’d Rhythm Nation dance party, come share perspectives on ways to live in loving union and respect for self, community, and the planet in a conference that includes

  • Lectures and experiential intensives focused on yoga philosophy, yoga therapy, Ayurveda, healing arts, dance, a fire ceremony, yoga for play and renewal, African call-and-response woven together with ancient Vedic chants, and ways to balance the chakras through vinyasa
  • Peace and Power panel discussions to share experiences and strategies as black yoga teachers in the 21st century and learn what your peers are offering in the world
  • Morning and afternoon yoga and meditation classes
  • Yoga as a Peace Practice: BYTA’s first national initiative to engage and guide black yoga teachers in using yoga practices and philosophy to address the needs of communities challenged by abuse and violence.

The conference culminates in a soulful celebration of African dance and drumming led by Marilyn and Sekou Sylla and the Bamidele Dancers.
