Exploring the Power of Story and Imagination with Macbeth

For everyone.

It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves. Those words from William Shakespeare lie at the heart of this experiential, exciting, and empowering program. Using the tragedy of Macbeth as a lens—including a live performance at nearby Shakespeare & Company, directed by Melia Bensussen—we explore how imagination and internal scripts and visions can impact our lives either destructively or creatively.

The stories we tell ourselves and the stories we make our own have a powerful influence on our actions—yet we’re often unaware of them. With the guidance of an Obie-award-winning director and a wellness and yoga expert, we delve into personal reflection and awareness through study of the text, discussion of the play, writing exercises, and yoga and movement to explore the self. A “talk-back” with the actors following the performance adds further insight into the wisdom Macbeth holds for us—in terms of self-knowledge, self-determination, and willpower (held in the third chakra, according to yoga philosophy).

No prior knowledge of Shakespeare is required, although reading the play ahead of time is encouraged. Come make a grand entrance onto the stage of your own life.

Note Tuition includes a ticket and transportation to Shakespeare & Company’s performance of Macbeth, directed by Melia Bensussen.
