The Trauma of Caste A Four-Week Online Book Club

TRANSFORM COLLECTIVE SUFFERING

Join us for an online book club that puts forth a call to awaken and act.

Hosted by Dr. Sriya Bhattacharyya, this four-week book club will provide an opportunity to engage with Dalit-American activist Thenmozhi Soundararajan. The author of The Trauma of Caste: A Dalit Feminist Meditation on Survivorship, Healing, and Abolition, Thenmozhi ties Dalit oppression to fights for liberation among Black, Indigenous, Latinx, femme, and queer communities—examining caste from a feminist, abolitionist, and Dalit-Buddhist perspective. Her book lays bare the grief, trauma, rage, and stolen futures enacted by Brahminical social structures on the caste-oppressed.

This book club series—suitable for readers all around the world—will explore:

  • Themes of healing and survivorship
  • Ways our communities can mend from centuries of caste violence
  • Your own relationship to caste and marginalization
  • How to step into your power as a healing activist and changemaker

Although caste oppression is thousands of years old, the conversation in the United States is just beginning. This series includes embodiment exercises, reflections, and meditations as well as skills for cultivating wellness within dynamics of false separation—sharing how both oppressor and oppressed can heal the wounds of caste and transform collective suffering.
