Music, Meditation, and Mindfulness A Unique Kripalu-Tanglewood Experience

For everyone; absolutely no technical expertise or prior training in music is required—simply a love for classical music and an interest in applying the principles of mindfulness to the experience of focused listening.

Double the pleasure of a summer weekend in the Berkshires with this rewarding Kripalu-Tanglewood experience. Join Kripalu’s Larissa Hall Carlson and the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s (BSO) Marc Mandel to explore the striking parallels between music and mindfulness, and discover not only what draws us to music, but also how music draws us into an ever-deepening awareness of ourselves and our relationship with others.

Program sessions incorporate mindful movement, breathwork, meditation, and guided listening to classical music featured in this weekend’s Saturday-night and Sunday-afternoon BSO concerts at Tanglewood, just across the road from Kripalu. This program includes attendance at both BSO concerts, which feature emotionally effusive music by Johannes Brahms and Robert Schumann—two of the greatest 19th-century composers of the Romantic era—with works for orchestra alone and for orchestra with soloists, including pianist Kirill Gerstein, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and members of the BSO horn section. Pre- and post-concert discussions focus on how we perceive music, and how we respond both individually and collectively to the experience of concertgoing.

Note: Complimentary lawn tickets to Tanglewood will be provided for both BSO concerts.

Depending on availability, complimentary indoor seating may be provided for the Saturday-night concert only. For those wanting to ensure reserved seating inside Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Music Shed, a 25 percent discount on Saturday-night and/or Sunday-afternoon tickets is available to program participants who purchase them directly through the BSO no later than August 2 (details to be provided upon registration).
