Music, Meditation, and Mindfulness A Unique Kripalu-Tanglewood Experience

For everyone; absolutely no technical expertise or prior training in music is required—simply a love for classical music and an interest in applying the principles of mindfulness to the experience of focused listening.

Double the pleasure of a summer weekend in the Berkshires with this rewarding Kripalu-Tanglewood experience. Join Kripalu’s Larissa Hall Carlson and the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s (BSO) Marc Mandel to explore the striking parallels between music and mindfulness, and discover not only what draws us to music, but also how music draws us into an ever-deepening awareness of ourselves and our relationship with others.

Program sessions incorporate mindful movement, breathwork, meditation, discussion, and guided listening to selections from the classical music featured in this weekend’s Saturday-night and Sunday-afternoon BSO concerts at Tanglewood—just across the road from Kripalu) This program includes attendance at both BSO concerts, which will include repertoire favorites for soloist and orchestra by the great 19th-century composers Brahms and Dvořák, along with a brilliant new orchestral showpiece by the gifted young American composer Eric Nathan. Discussion throughout the weekend will focus on how music is perceived, and how you respond both individually and collectively to the experience of concertgoing.

Note: Complimentary lawn tickets to Tanglewood will be provided for both BSO concerts, with the possibility—subject to availability—of complimentary, reserved indoor seating for the Saturday-night concert only. For those wanting to ensure reserved seating inside Tanglewood’s Koussevitzky Music Shed, a 25 percent discount for Saturday-night and/or Sunday-afternoon tickets is available to program participants who purchase them through the BSO no later than July 17 (details to be provided upon registration).
