Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga Teacher Training

For yoga teachers, outdoor guides, and fitness instructors. See prerequisites below.

Take your yoga training to the next level—and your practice onto the water—in our summer stand up paddleboard (SUP) yoga teacher training. One of the fastest growing water sports, SUP yoga combines the healthy benefits of outdoor recreation with the fundamentals of asana practice in a way that is accessible to all ages and experience levels. Held exclusively on the beautiful waters of our own Lake Mahkeenac, this seven-day training provides the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently take your students, clients, or individual practice off the mat and onto the board in a fun and inclusive way.

In this course, you learn

  • Paddle stroke and turning techniques, maneuvering, board handling, launching, and landing
  • Water safety and rescue basics
  • Trip- and class-leading skills, group management, and communication on the water
  • Anchoring systems and set-up
  • SUP yoga postures, sequences, and transitions.

Note Students who meet the essential eligibility criteria after the course will receive SUP Level One Instructor Certification and SUP Yoga Endorsement through the American Canoe and Kayak Association (ACA). Annual membership dues apply.

Prerequisites Current first aid/CPR certification required. 200-hour yoga teaching certification is required to receive SUP Yoga Endorsement, but not a prerequisite to take the course.

This program may be taken as part of Kripalu’s 1000-Hour Yoga Teacher Training or as a standalone program.
