The Wakeful Body Somatic Mindfulness as a Path to Freedom

The pivot from loving yoga to living yoga happens when you realize that yoga is not just a practice—it is a way of being every day in the world. The guide to that way of living is your own body. Wakeful Body training is an approach to practice grounded in the tradition of Himalayan Buddhism, integrating meditation with yoga and using the innate wisdom of the body as the field of learning. It takes participants on a journey through four layers of embodiment: the physical body, the energy body, the awareness body, and the body of integration.

In this program, you will study the theory of bodily awakening from an Eastern mind-body perspective, learn yogic exercises, and cultivate somatic meditations designed to gradually unleash the body and mind’s natural wakefulness. These practices are grounded in thousands of years of ancient Buddhist wisdom—and bring insight, equanimity, compassion, and peace from the realm of ideas into the truth of lived experience. Under the guidance of Lama Willa Blythe Baker, you will learn how to

  • Develop a daily mindfulness practice grounded in the body
  • Practice breathing and yoga as mindfulness in motion
  • Enact GROUND (Ground, Relax, Open, Untangle, Nurture, Dissolve), the core principles of Wakeful Body training.

Through diving deep into these layers, you discover that everything you have ever needed is already present in your body and mind.

Note This program is suitable for all levels of practice.
