On Campus Program

Writing with HeART

Before we could write, we could draw. By adding visuals to our narratives—drawings, photographs, found objects, clippings, collages—we can capture experiences that come before or go beyond words. Weaving together text and art, or exploring each as a way further into the other, can deepen your artistic expression.

Join New Yorker cartoonist, author, and illustrator Suzy Becker for a safe, playful environment to help make your life stories visible. Whether you’re interested in journaling, memoir writing, visual art, or simply a creative avenue to self-discovery, this program will support you through lecture, demonstration, individual coaching, and more. Learn how to

  • Take your narrative expression to the next level
  • Incorporate best practices and strategies for beating writer's/artist's block
  • Increase your awareness of illustrated narrative.

Connect with yourself and others and return home feeling inspired to bring your stories to life.

Note Please bring a journal, pen/pencil, collage materials, and at least three books for a pop-up workshop library.

“The best thing about the workshop was the level of comfort [Suzy] created to make everyone willing to share. [Her] use of humor made our time really fun.” —Harrison W., past program participant

“Suzy has a welcoming, encouraging presence. I felt seen and heard. I saw and felt the epiphany of letting go and writing.” —Cheryl R., past program participant
