Yoga for Injury Prevention and Management How to Stay Safe and Have a Practice of Longevity for You and Your Students

For all levels, including yoga teachers who want to help students with injuries.

Wrist issues; neck and shoulder dysfunction; low back, hip, and knee pain—as a culture, we are disconnected from our bodies. The underuse, overuse, and abuse of our joints often leads to inflammation, pain, or injury.

  • Functional movement/yoga asana
  • Posture and pose assessment
  • Lecture and experiential learning

Preventing an injury before it begins is the best way to avoid it in the future. Yoga can help us increase inner awareness of sensations, so we can listen to the feedback our body is giving us and become aware of our movement patterns and postural tendencies, restoring balance to our body and increase well-being. Come explore

  • Where you are overexerting your body
  • Which joints you don’t have full range of motion in
  • Areas you have relied on and exhausted, making them ripe for injury
  • Functional movement patterns for preexisting injuries.

By creating more space in the joints, we move out of compression and may increase the general health of the joint by being centered and balanced. Learn how to use your whole body so that each part functions better and you are more integrated both on and off the mat.

Note Bring a notebook and comfortable clothes to move in. Any lecture material will be shared with participants.

“Kari’s dedication, knowledge, passion, and ability to communicate are astounding. She studies arduously and teaches yoga in a way that is approachable and just plain fun. Her competency is unparalleled. Everyone who enters Kari’s classroom will walk away inspired and delighted.” —Colleen Saidman Yee

“[This] workshop has changed my body and my life. My spine and rib cage are in better alignment than I ever dreamed possible. Although my yoga practice has dramatically helped my muscular skeletal system and provided me relief from pain, I was never able to effectively realign my spine and rib cage. I’ve dealt with scoliosis since I was a pre-teen. Kari and Glen are the first professionals to tell me I could correct it. I feel grateful daily.” —Ashley K., Past program participant

This program may be taken as part of Kripalu’s 1000-Hour Yoga Teacher Training or as a standalone program.
