I Believe: An Excerpt from ‘Busy, Stressed, and Food Obsessed’

Here’s an excerpt from her book, Busy, Stressed, and Food Obsessed.

 I BELIEVE

I believe that you are not crazy, even if you think about food all day.

I believe that willpower is for superheroes.

I believe that you will feel much better if you slow down and breathe deeply.

I believe that people will remember you for how you made them feel, not for how much you weighed.

I believe that you will not benefit from beating yourself up.

I believe that you should move your body to feel alive, not to punish yourself.

I believe that hunger is our body telling us it needs something.

I believe that you are not broken and, therefore, do not need to be fixed.

I believe that diets don’t work, but strategies do.

I believe that you will not feel better for eating that cookie.

I believe that food should not be labeled good or bad, but rather “more often” or “less often.”

I believe that you are not lazy, just tired.

I believe that when it comes to eating, we should get rid of words like “cheat,” “bad,” and “deserve.”

I believe that your body talks to you but if you don’t quiet your mind, you can’t hear it.

I believe that happiness is a choice.

I believe that we must take responsibility for our own health.

I believe that gratitude and purpose are keys to a fulfilling life.

I believe that self-compassion is essential for good health.

I believe that it’s not about how many times you get off track, it’s about how many times you get back on.

I believe that it’s not about being perfect, it’s about being consistent most of the time.

I believe in YOU.
