Kirtan Evolution New Year’s Retreat

CONNECT WITH YOUR BREATH
Join us as we nurture compassionate self-love through the mindful somatic exploration of our singing voice. In this retreat, we will cultivate our innate musical abilities while learning many of the most powerfully healing chants and songs from the sacred music genre. Participants may bring their own harmonium, guitar, keyboard, drum, or any other instrument they'd prefer or simply choose to enjoy the retreat purely through their voice.
In this retreat, we will:
- Begin by connecting with our breath and bodies, exploring a variety of breathwork and qigong methods to facilitate a deeper sense of embodiment and authenticity.
- Carry and express this embodied sense of being into the practice of vocal yoga, exploring the voice as a tool for self-knowledge, self-acceptance, and healing.
- Allow the practice to find expression through a beautiful variety of healing chants and songs, exploring and developing our abilities to embody the energy and intentions of the chants through our own bodies, hearts, and minds.
One of the foundational resources that informs the practice of vocal yoga is the work of Bessel van der Kolk and his book The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma. Exploring our relationship with the energetic and somatic stories our voice is telling us—receiving those stories with compassion and self-love—is the essence of the vocal yoga practice and a powerful tool to develop greater understanding and integration of our whole selves—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
This process is often profoundly healing and transformative, and throughout the retreat we'll share and discover methods and tools to support a deeply enriched home practice, allowing participants to carry the experience forward into their daily lives.
All levels of experience are welcome!
