Karen DeTemple

Karen DeTemple is the President of Workwonder which she launched in June 2020 to help individuals, leaders, and organizations do their best work. Drawing on 30 years of experience growing organizations, building fundraising programs, activating leadership, engaging donors, and managing strategic execution, Karen works with clients to identify and move past challenges big and small.
From 2015–2019 she was the cofounder of The Art of Change, an international consultancy that focused on fundraising strategy and audience development for the art world. Select clients included ArtTable, Boston Center for the Arts, CHART Art Fair, EXPO Chicago, Finnish Cultural Institute in New York, Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, and SITE Santa Fe.
From 2005–2015, Karen was the President of Karen DeTemple Consulting where she focused on fundraising consulting and fundraising event planning for numerous high-level clients, including AIDS Action Committee, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Massachusetts College of Art and Biography Design, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.
For more than a decade before consulting, Karen worked as a fundraiser for some of the nation’s most esteemed cultural institutions, including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; the Exploratorium, San Francisco; The Joffrey Ballet, Chicago; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and The Phillips Collection, Washington, D.C.
Karen has spoken about her work at the Social Innovation Forum in Boston, Massachusetts, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City, RAISE: The Event Fundraising Conference in Chicago, Women in Development in Boston, Massachusetts, and The Art World Conference in New York City. She has been featured in Forbes, Alliance Magazine, Girlboss, and various Boston-based publications. Karen graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana with a degree in Communications and Art History.
