Yoga vs. Osteoporosis Teacher Certification
Master a Medically Proven Technique for Bone Health
Join pioneering osteoporosis expert Loren Fishman, M.D., and yoga teacher Liz Larson for an exciting and in-depth two-weekend hybrid program that will enable all to learn and some to teach the Yoga vs. Osteoporosis series. The online portion is June 26-28, and the Kripalu on campus portion is June 10-12. If you would like to be certified to teach the Fishman Method of Yoga for Osteoporosis, please click HERE to register for the first (online) weekend of the program, or visit https://sciatica.org/upcoming-events/ for more information. This web page can enroll you in the Kripalu weekend hands-on teaching
During the Kripalu weekend, the focus will be on the effective and safe teaching of the poses and the practicum. Those seeking teacher certification will practice teaching the poses to the group throughout the weekend. We will also cover additional pose adjustments, refinements, and workarounds that are best given in person.
Assessment will be primarily based on how well the specific tenets of teaching Yoga vs. Osteoporosis are incorporated into your teaching, and on how safely and effectively it is taught. Not every version of every pose is accessible to everyone. You will learn to verbally instruct how to do each version of the poses safely, but you do not have to be able to do every version.
The Kripalu portion of the program offers a unique opportunity to master the teaching of Yoga vs. Osteoporosis Series 1 poses while receiving feedback from Dr. Fishman, Liz Larson, and other senior members of his teaching team.
NOTE: Both parts of the program are geared toward yoga teachers and yoga therapists, but it is open to all, regardless of certification status or previous yoga experience.

Teacher Certification Requirements
If you seek Teacher Certification, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be: a yoga teacher with at least a 200-hr certification OR, a medical professional (MD, RN, BSN, PT, OT, LMT, etc.).
- You must also pass the written exam AND live practicum involving successfully and safely teaching yoga poses to the group.
Registration for and attendance at both weekends is required for teacher certification.
NOTE: You can join both parts of the program without seeking certification, in fact without any credentials at all. Every time this program is offered, people new to yoga come and have good experiences.
Registration is in two parts for certification:
- Register with Dr. Fishman's Method HERE for Weekend #1, the online June 26-28 weekend.
- Register with Kripalu Center on this webpage for Weekend #2, the in-person practicum weekend at Kripalu.
Registration and attendance at BOTH weekends is required for those seeking teacher certification, with possible special arrangements for participants from abroad.
This live and online, hybrid, 20-hour two-weekend program is geared toward yoga teachers and yoga therapists, but anyone may attend.
NOTE: The two-weekend certification program is approved for 20 hours CEU by The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). Those who achieve certification will have the option to be listed as certified teachers on sciatica.org.
