Deepu Gowda

Deepu Gowda, MD, MPH, MS is an associate professor of medicine and the course director of foundations of clinical medicine at Columbia University, a course that introduces medical students to the physical examination, the medical interview, and clinical reasoning. As a medical educator trained in narrative medicine, Dr. Gowda teaches skills of close listening and careful observation, with an interest in helping students recognize themselves as healers. He is a practicing general internist and has also received numerous teaching awards. His research focuses on using art and literature with health care teams to build relationships and self-care. He is a member of the New York City Board of Health.
