Perry Garfinkel is a journalist, speaker, writing teacher, drummer, and the author of the national best-seller Buddha or Bust: In Search of Truth, Meaning, Happiness and the Man Who Found Them All. His book expanded on his National Geographic article about socially-engaged Buddhism, entitled “Buddha Rising,” which was the cover feature of 24 international editions. Perry has been a contributer to the New York Times for more than 30 years, writing about culture, social, spiritual, psychology, health, travel, and dining trends. His work has also appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, Insiders Guide to Spas, Lion’s Roar, Psychology Today, Men’s Health, and many others. He was a launch editor for New Age Journal and editor-in-chief of EcoTraveler. He also worked as a writer and associate producer for the Travel ChannelHe has appeared as a guest on Donahue  CNN’s “Faces of Faith” with Don Lemon, CBS' This Morning, The O'Reilly Report with Bill O’Reilly, and Between the Lines.  

Perry's latest book, Becoming Gandhi: My Experiment Living the Mahatma’s 6 Moral Truths in Immoral Times, with foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, was named among the top 10 spiritualty and religion books for 2023/2024 by Publishers Weekly
