Ssanyu Birigwa

Ssanyu Birigwa, a Reiki master, meditator, and yogi, graduated from the Master of Science in Narrative Medicine program at Columbia in 2016 and now teaches on the program faculty. She coteaches a spirituality and healthcare seminar in Columbia University’s Columbia Commons Interprofessional Education Program and is a cofounder of Narrative Bridge to spread narrative practices in healthcare. Ssanyu brings to her Reiki practice a blend of mindfulness from Usui Reiki Ryoho, and the devoted study of sacred texts. Enhanced by continual studies with energy practitioners from around the world, she feels blessed to share her love and gratitude for living in the moment; with an open heart and mindfulness. Ssanyu volunteers at Beth Israel Hospital in New York in the palliative care and hospice units. She holds leadership positions within charities that work in Kenya and Uganda.
