Sebene Selassie is a writer and teacher who leads meditation, creativity, and nature-based practices for personal and collective liberation. Her first book, You Belong: A Call for Connection, was published by HarperOne in 2020. Born in Ethiopia and raised in Washington, DC, Sebene has a BA in Comparative Religious Studies and Women’s Studies from McGill University and an MA from the New School where she focused on race and cultural studies. For over 20 years, she worked with children, youth, and families nationally and internationally—from the Tenderloin in San Francisco to refugee camps in Guinea, West Africa. Currently, Sebene blends ancient wisdom and modern science to help spiritually curious people explore the profound and sacred truth of belonging. She is trained as a meditation teacher, an integral coach, a practitioner of Indigenous Focusing Oriented Therapy for Complex Trauma (IFOT), and is a licensed hiking guide in New York State. For 15 years, she has taught classes, workshops, and retreats online and in person using her uniquely relational and relatable style.
