LEARN FROM A MASTER TEACHER & SCHOLAR
Join Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, PhD, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, for an informative, research-based presentation on the science of yoga.
Yoga is an ancient mind-body, contemplative practice whose original goal was to achieve states of consciousness known as samadhi, mystical experience, flow state, and transcendental state—all of which are intimately related to the experience of spirituality.
In easy-to-understand language, Dr. Khalsa will describe:
- The science and research on the psychophysiology of yoga practices that underly its ability to increase the experience of spirituality
- The published research evidence for improvements in spirituality with yoga
- The relevance and importance of improvements in spirituality with yoga to health, behavior, and healthcare in modern society.
Yoga practices improve and enhance human functioning on physical, mental, and emotional levels—including self-regulation of internal physical and psychological state and mind-body awareness and mindfulness. Short term yoga practice induces the relaxation response and with regular practice over a longer timeframe, many practitioners experience deeper unitive states of consciousness which can lead to improvements in positive psychological states, values, life purpose and goals, and spirituality.
