Unplugged

Unplugged at Kripalu

Kripalu is a mindful-tech campus.

Mindful Use of Technology Policy

At Kripalu, we believe in creating an environment that fosters presence, reflection, and connection. To support this, we encourage guests (and staff) to embrace a mindful pause from regular use of technology during their stay. This intentional approach allows you to fully immerse yourself in your retreat experience while cultivating deeper awareness and relaxation.

To maintain the integrity of the retreat experience, we have designated specific areas on campus for the use of technology including the 1st floor lounge located next to the Front Desk. These technology-friendly zones, marked by the Wi-Fi symbol on the map, are conveniently located on each floor of the main building, ensuring accessibility while preserving the tranquility of other shared spaced.

We kindly ask all guests to observe the following technology-free zones, where the use of devices is not permitted except for medical devices:

  • Dining Rooms: To encourage mindful eating and engaging conversations.
  • Cafe and Public Spaces, Hallways, and Donor Lounge: To provide spaces for relaxation and quiet reflection.
  • Program Rooms: To maintain focus and respect for shared learning and growth experiences.

Guest-enhancing tools like QR codes for information and schedules are available throughout the campus.

Please Note Guests who use technology for disease management etc. will be able to continue to use their technology. Please contact our Registrations Team with any questions at registration@kripalu.org or 413.448.3500

Learn More About Your Stay

The Kripalu Unplugged policy applies to all electronic devices including smartphones, computers, tablets, smartwatches, and e-readers.

There are a handful of places on our campus for you to intentionally check your devices. These include:

  • Designated 'Tech Zones' (including the Technology Room on the first floor and at least two phone booths on most floors).
  • The check-in desk at registration and arrival time.
  • Your private room.

Any public space including outdoors, the dining room, Shop, Cafe, Healing Arts reception, hallways, program rooms, treatment rooms, and lounges.

As this is a public space, it is not a tech zone.

We invite you to be unplugged in all public spaces throughout your stay—including the grounds and front terrace.

Yes, Kripalu's unplugged guidelines apply to both guests, students, and staff. A number of rooms for meetings and co-working spaces are available for staff who need to use technology.
