Self-Compassion for Shame

A path to inner freedom

Give Yourself Kindness

What’s wrong with you? Who do you think you are? Shame is the most difficult human emotion. It strikes at the core of our being but has nothing to do with who we really are.

Shame gets its power from our efforts to avoid it. When we turn toward shame and see it through the eyes of self-compassion, we discover something quite unusual: shame is an innocent emotion that arises from our universal wish to be loved.

This workshop offers a positive, energizing, non-pathologizing approach to shame. Drawing on the research-based Self-Compassion for Shame program, it combines brief talks, experiential exercises, guided practices, and discussion. Participants will learn simple, practical tools for meeting shame with greater awareness, kindness, and courage in everyday life.

All are welcome, including mental health and helping professionals who wish to work with shame more effectively with clients. Since shame can be emotionally activating, prior familiarity with self-compassion is recommended.

In this program, you will discover:

  • Experiential exercises to cultivate self-compassion
  • Guided practices to meet shame with greater awareness and kindness
  • Discussion in a supportive group environment
