Why Fall Might Be the Best Time to Visit Kripalu

There is a week every fall when the Berkshires become almost distractingly beautiful.

You’ll be walking to breakfast and stop because the mountain across the lawn has turned completely orange overnight. Or you’ll look out the window halfway through yoga and realize the view has changed since yesterday. Even the drive here starts to feel like part of the trip.

It might actually be our favorite time of year and here are five reasons to experience it for yourself.

1. The Berkshires Put on a Show

Kripalu sits on more than 100 acres of woods and trails overlooking Lake Mahkeenac, which means you don’t have to plan a scenic drive or hunt down the perfect foliage spot. You’re already here.

Take the path down toward the lake, walk the labyrinth, or bring your coffee outside in the morning. Perch on one of the Adirondack chairs facing the hills and stay longer than you meant to.

This is one of those rare occasions when the reality looks like the postcard.

2. It's the Perfect Season to Get Outside

Fall was made for getting outside, with cool mornings, crisp air, and no summer humidity.

Explore Kripalu’s trails alone or join a guided hike with our seasoned faculty. Either way, you don’t need to turn it into an accomplishment. At Kripalu, a walk can just be a walk. Slow down, look around, and notice what’s changing.

3. The Programming is World-Class

While the setting is beautiful, what happens here is the reason to come again and again.

Our fall calendar brings renowned teachers, authors, thought leaders, and Kripalu’s own faculty together for days exploring yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, creativity, personal growth, and more.

Come for someone you’ve always wanted to learn from, or take a chance on something entirely new.

4. It's the Window Before the Holidays Arrive

There’s a small window between the rush of September and the full tilt of the holidays. We recommend taking advantage of it.

Before the parties, family travel, shopping, cooking, and end-of-year everything, give yourself a few days with fewer decisions. Let us cook for you. Move your body without planning how. Read your book. Go to bed early.

The holidays—and your responsibilities—will still be there when you get home.

5. Things Are Getting Quieter—Inside and Out

As fall moves along, the Berkshires get quieter after the bustle of summer. The leaves thin, the days shorten, and the natural world begins to settle in for winter.

You don’t have to turn this into a big revelation. Instead, take the smaller moments as they come: a quiet morning, a walk without your phone, a few minutes to reflect on gratitude or practice a little more self-compassion.

Fall doesn’t ask us to stop completely, but it does seem to make a little more room for quiet.

And Kripalu is a very good place to find it.

Inspire someone’s journey. Share this wisdom.
