Kripalu Outdoors: Woodland Retreat

EXPLORE THE KRIPALU CAMPUS

The woods, fields, and little streams of Berkshire County have long been heralded for their enchanting beauty and ability to refresh the mind, body, and spirit.

In this mindful outdoor retreat, guided by Kripalu School of Mindful Outdoor Leadership faculty, log off, slow down, and enjoy gentle strolls out of doors, in an intimate relationship with trees, stones, the great elements, and our friends in the “more than human world”. Explore the fabled “Shadowbrook” and its many waterfalls and pools, forest bathe among our friends, the ancient Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga Canadensis), learn outdoor skills like animal tracking, ancestral fire birthing, and foraging in a community of folks who share a deep appreciation for nature and mindfulness.

In this retreat, you will

  • Log off the world wide web and log onto “the wood wide web”!
  • Explore the practice of mindfulness as a doorway to deeper connection with the natural world
  • Experience the nine steps of a Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Experience
  • Learn to meditate with nature’s elements and experience “earth time”
  • Learn about fire craft and other bush crafting skills to feel more connected and comfortable outdoors.
  • Experience human community through council fire sessions and forest tea ceremony.

Note Although this is not a hiking program and walks will be gentle and meditative, most sessions will be outdoors. Please plan to dress in layers, bring a hat, gloves, wind and/or waterproof shell, sturdy hiking shoes, and a day pack with a water bottle and journal.
