The Trauma of Caste A Four-Week Online Book Club

STEP INTO YOUR POWER AS A HEALING ACTIVIST

The Trauma of Caste: A Dalit Feminist Meditation on Survivorship, Healing, and Abolition is the first nonfiction book published in the United States by a North American press and written by a Dalit, or caste oppressed, feminist author.

Hosted by Dr. Sriya Bhattacharyya, this four-week online book club will provide an opportunity to engage with Dalit-American activist and author of The Trauma of Caste, Thenmozhi Soundararajan. Thenmozhi ties Dalit oppression to fights for liberation among Black, Indigenous, Latinx, femme, and queer communities—examining caste from a feminist, abolitionist, and Dalit-Buddhist perspective. Thenmozhi's book lays bare the grief, trauma, rage, and stolen futures enacted by Brahminical social structures on the caste oppressed.

Through embodiment exercises, reflections, and meditations, we will explore:

  • Ways our communities can mend from centuries of caste violence
  • How both oppressor and oppressed can heal the wounds of caste
  • Healing, survivorship, and ways to transform collective suffering
  • Skills for cultivating wellness within dynamics of false separation

Although caste oppression is thousands of years old, the conversation in the United States is just beginning. Be a part of this important discussion.
